Q:What are TMT bars?

With the sudden reduction in temperature the surface layer harden up while the internal core is still hot. Further cooling of the bar in normal temperature heat form the core causes TEMPERING.

A:TMT bars are manufactured by using cheap and substandard recycled metal. The scrap is not thoroughly refined to have pure Iron, many other metals and impurities are left to be supper-heated to form a melt and hence casted into bars.

Q:Why TMT Bars fail in Chemical Properties of ASTM A615 Standard?

A:Mostly TMT bars are rolled with cheap and substandard scraps for the low cost of production. This treatment is focused to increase only physical properties of yield strength. This process fails to maintain the ratio (gap of 30000psi) in between yield strength and tensile strength as defined is ASTM A615 and causes failure of the bar. TMT bars also fails in bend testing due to high tempering. Above all, it is proved that TMT Bars fail 100% in chemical properties defined in ASTM standard.There is also a great variation in physical apearance of bars from same lot.
